A global manufacturer of consumer chemical products recognized the need and opportunity to work with EKG to improve ergonomic performance within their facilities in both Canada and the United States.
Customized project plans were developed for each site based on their unique characteristics and desires. Common for all sites were project elements that engaged both management and the work force. This approach emphasized that safe ergonomic performance is a shared responsibility across all levels of the organization.
EKG led a strategic review and awareness training session in regards to ergonomics with members of management
To engage management, EKG led a strategic review and awareness training session in regards to ergonomics with members of management. The strategic review involved discussions with individual members of management across all departments about ergonomics (roles, responsibilities, accountabilities, resources, programs, procedures, work instructions, knowledge, training, orientation, reminders, recognition, corrections, etc.) Work areas were observed and records were reviewed to identify ergonomic performance gaps. Prioritized findings and improvement opportunities were presented to the full management team. An ergonomic awareness training session was presented with emphasis on knowledge, understanding and skills from a management perspective (leadership, culture, consequences, goals, hazard recognition & controls, standards, communication, monitoring, etc.)
To engage the workforce, EKG led ergonomic training sessions and workstation specific job coaching. Training sessions included fundamental information about ergonomics, MSD injury, common signs & symptoms, hazards and safe work practices. The emphasis of the training was to empower workers to take personal actions for their own protection from MSD injury and recognize the means to seek help as early as possible if there is the possible onset of an MSD injury. Workers, supervisors and management attended sessions. EKG followed-up all sessions with workstation specific job coaching to ensure all workers understood the information and how to apply the safe work practices at their workstations. EKG also identified and recorded workstation specific ergonomic control improvements including safe work techniques, administrative changes and workplace design modifications.
Training sessions included fundamental information about ergonomics, MSD injury, common signs & symptoms, hazards and safe work practices.
The projects significantly improved ergonomic competency across the organization sites at all levels. EKG delivered clear direction for corrective action initiatives for both strategic and workstation specific improvements. EKG is very proud of the improved safe ergonomic performance and culture experienced across the sites of this organization.
